Zang Kejia

Zang Kejia (Qingdao, 1933)

Zang Kejia ( Chinese  臧克家 , Pinyin Zāng Kèjiā , born October 8, 1905 in Zhucheng , Shandong , died February 5, 2004 in Beijing ) was a Chinese poet who was also politically active as a member of the Chinese Democratic League ( 中国 民主 同盟 ). Together with Zhou Zhenfu (周振甫; 1911–2000) he edited selected poems by Chairman Mao in 1957 with notes and comments.

Life

Zang was born in the east Chinese province of Shandong in October 1905 and attended Shandong Provincial First Normal School from 1923 . He was later trained at the Wuhan Branch of the Central Military and Political School. From 1930 to 1934, Zang was a student in the Chinese Language Department of Shandong University . In 1937 he published his first collection of poems with the title Laoyin (烙印 làoyìn Brandmale) and in 1946 a collection of political-ironic verses. After the outbreak of war , Zang did cultural propaganda work for the army. After the war he was involved in editorial activities and published his first collection of short stories and prose.

During the " Cultural Revolution ", literary and social activities ceased and he was sent to a May 7th cadre school in Xianning , Hubei . Zang was editor-in-chief of the literary magazine Shikan 詩 刊 from 1957 to 1964 and deputy honorary president of the Chinese Writers' Association .

He died at the old age of 99.
