Pliers (component)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pair of pliers is a component in carpentry-like timber construction , which consists of two parallel boards , planks or beams (with narrow cross-sections) ("double timber "), which run on both sides of rafters , stands and other load-bearing wooden components . They are often part of a roof structure , especially as collar beams or part of a roof truss .

In contrast to a (truss) strut traditionally connected with tongue and groove connections, pliers can also absorb tensile forces.

Shorter pliers are also known as lugs and are used, for example, to secure the position of the ridge purlin by running from rafter to rafter directly under it.

Depending on the load, pliers are nailed on, screwed or connected to the beam by means of bolts and, if necessary, press-in dowels.
