Lists on the subject

The Zastava M70 is an assault rifle from the company Zastava oružje from Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia ). The firearm is based on the technology of the Kalashnikov assault rifle ( AK-47 and AKM ) and fires the 7.62 × 39 mm caliber .

history

According to the Yugoslav military doctrine with equipment from West and East , Zastava developed the assault rifle M77 in caliber 7.62 × 51 mm NATO and the assault rifle M90 and the submachine gun version M85 in caliber 5.56 × 45 mm NATO .

The M70 is the most widely used assault rifle in the former Yugoslavia and was the main infantry weapon of all parties involved in the war in Yugoslavia that followed the collapse of the state .

The barrel of the M70 is very susceptible to corrosion because it is not hard chrome plated . The lack of hard chrome plating is typical for weapons of the Soviet design, which were manufactured by Zastava.

In the Islamist-motivated terrorist attacks of November 13, 2015 in Paris , the attackers mainly used weapons of this type.
