Zdeněk Jirotka (writer)
Zdeněk Jirotka (born January 7, 1911 in Polish Ostrau , Friedek district ; † April 12, 2003 ) was a Czech writer and columnist . He mainly wrote humorous novels , short stories and radio plays .
Life
He attended secondary school in Ostrava until 1929 and graduated from the building industry college in Hradec Králové in 1933 . He joined the army and served until 1940. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the National Socialists , he was employed in the Ministry of Public Works, but since 1942, after the success of his debut, he devoted himself only to literature.
Works
He wrote for several newspapers and magazines, including the Lidové noviny (as well as Svobodné noviny , a name of Lidové noviny between 1945 and 1948) and after 1951 for the satirical magazine Dikobraz . Between 1953 and 1962 he was also an editor at the Czechoslovak Radio and then again at Dikobraz.
Novels
- Saturnin , 1942 - The humorous novel tells the story of the servant Saturnin, his master and his guests. The narrator, Saturnin's lord, takes him into his service without knowing what will happen to him in detail.
- The Man with the Dog (Muž se psem), 1944 - Satirical parody of stupid cheaters and an infallible amateur detective who solves the crimes.

- Biology professor on the ladder (Profesor biologie na žebříku), 1956 - A collection of anecdotes and short stories from the period 1951 to 1955. Satirical view of current affairs.
