Zdeněk Sýkora (born February 3, 1920 in Louny ; † July 12, 2011 ibid) was a Czech painter and sculptor .

Life

Sýkora had been painting since 1940 and by 1960 found the way to constructivist or concrete art . From 1966 he was professor of painting at the Charles University in Prague .

In 1964 Sýkora and a physicist from the University of Prague created the basis for his concrete, constructive painting on the computer . At first he worked with mathematically structured random distributions of circles, squares and triangles. In 1968, Zdeněk Sýkora took part in the 4th documenta in Kassel with one graphic and three sculptures .

Since 1972 he has been working on the “line paintings”, which have brought him worldwide fame as sensual, highly vivid meditations on the relationship between system and chance in aesthetics .

Sýkora and his wife Lenka Sýkorova obtain the parameters for color, width and radius development of line clusters from books with random numbers and implement these “preprogrammed” structures in classic acrylic painting. Sýkora lived and worked in Louny.
