Career

Born in Czechoslovakia , Mezl immigrated to North America with his family at a young age. He started skiing in Canada and quickly specialized in ski jumping . He made his international debut in the Canadian team for the Four Hills Tournament in 1969/70 . After he had skipped the opening competition in Oberstdorf , he jumped to a weak 94th place in the New Year's competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . The jumping on the Bergiselschanze in Innsbruck , which he finished in 90th place, went only a little better . After finishing 76th on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen, he finished the tour in 91st place in the overall tournament ranking.

At the following Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso he jumped from the large hill on 69 and 80 meters and reached the 68th and last place. He could only improve slightly from the normal hill and after jumps on 65.5 and 63 meters he finished 65th.

At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , he jumped from the normal hill to 40th place. On the large hill, he took a good 17th place, having even been tenth after the first round.
