The Zeche Centrum 4/6 was a hard coal mine in Essen - Leithe .

history

The colliery was designed as a connection to the colliery center in Wattenscheid . 1898 Lahn Beckestraße in Leithe the shaft Centrum 4 drilled . The more extensive information showed, however, that only lean coal reserves were economically recoverable at this mine, while the Centrum mine itself was a producing fat coal mine.

The shaft Centrum 4 was developed as a production well and went into operation in 1900's. In the same year, a second shaft was added to shaft 4 . This was called Shaft Centrum 6 because a ton-long weather shaft on Centrum had previously been included in the shaft count as shaft 5.

In 1902, shaft 6 went into operation. Both shafts were equipped with identical German strut frames. The 4/6 mine was henceforth operated as an independent colliery center 4/6 by the Rheinische Stahlwerke .

From 1908 a briquette factory was operated on the colliery. In 1922, Rheinische Stahlwerke AG decided to permanently part with the lean coal business. Therefore, the Zeche Centrum 4/6 was sold to the Bergbaugesellschaft Adler mbH . It was planned to connect the colliery with the Johann Deimelsberg colliery, which is also owned by Adler . However, this project failed due to the generally poor economic situation for lean coal mines around 1926.

Shutdown

It became apparent that the Centrum 4/6 colliery would not be able to survive on its own. As part of the general sale of the Adler GmbH's mining properties, the Centrum 4/6 colliery was shut down in 1929. Since the mine was on a hill, the closure of the colliery resulted in a dewatering problem. Under guidance of the mine Ludwig the Gutehoffnungshütte and the mine Centrum a pumping Community has been set up, which via the shaft 6 dewatering took over. Shaft 4 was partially filled and covered. The headframe shaft 4 was broken off.

In 1952 the pit field and shafts of the Katharina colliery were put back into operation for renewed dismantling . The shafts were cleared and sunk deeper, shaft 4 received a new headframe. The Centrum 4/6 mine remained in operation until Katharina was shut down in 1972. Then the shafts were finally filled and all remaining systems demolished.

Current condition

Nothing has been preserved from the original buildings. The Centrum 4/6 site houses the Adlerstrasse / Leithe industrial estate . The Centrumstrasse in this industrial area is still reminiscent of the former colliery.
