The Zeche Marie is a decommissioned lignite mine in Habichtswald, west of Kassel , in the northern Hessian lignite area .
history
In the middle of the 18th century many smaller mines were built in North Hesse , including the Marie mine in 1868. Operations ceased in 1966. Until the 1990s, there were road closures due to collapsing routes (mountain damage due to daybreak ). At the present only an old tunnel entrance and a few depressions in the Habichtswald are visible. Furthermore, another main road in Kassel is called Kohlenstraße. A street in Habichtswald also bears the name “Zeche-Marie-Weg”.
