from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zeeuwsch-Vlaamsche Tramweg-Maatschappij (ZVTM) was a public transport company in the middle and east of Zeeuws Vlaanderen (Zealand Flanders) in the Netherlands . It was operated from 1911 to 1949 with steam trams , from 1950 it was a pure bus company . In 1978 the ZVTM became part of the Zuid-West-Nederland bus company.

history

ZVTM connections to Belgium

Immediately after its establishment in 1911, the ZVTM took over the ownership and operation of the IJzendijksche Stoomtramweg Maatschappij (IJzSM). The first new line opened in 1914.

In 1918 the ZVTM took over the ownership of the Stoomtram Hulst-Walsoorden (SHW). From 1933 ZVTM material (locomotives) replaced the original SHW material on the SHW line. The creation of the ZVTM was the result of attempts by the IJzSM to connect the tram lines to the rest of Zeeuws Vlaanderen. The track width was 1000 millimeters , the same as with the IJzSM, SHW, SBM and the Belgian national small railway company NMVB .

The main route ran from Schoondijke via IJzendijke , Pyramide , Sas van Gent , Drieschouwen , Zaamslag and Kloosterzande to Walsoorden . The SHW tracks were also used on the Kloosterzande - Walsoorde line. The ZVTM also operated a shorter route via Terneuzen between Philippine and Zaamslag .

Because the SBM refused to share their Schoondijke - Breskens line , the ZVTM established a connection between Pyramid and Breskens via Hoofdplaat .

From 1950 the ZVTM was a pure bus company. In 1975 she took over the Stoomtram-Maatschappij Breskens-Maldeghem (SBM), which also operated steam trams . In 1978 ZVTM was taken over by the bus company Zuid-West-Nederland.

particularities

ZVTM operated some of its routes exclusively for freight traffic:

Some routes were initially opened for freight traffic, then also for passenger traffic.

In 1940 Rijkswaterstaat put an additional tram to the ferry port from Perkpolderhaven to Kloosterzande to the ZVTM. This route was owned by the Dutch state.
