The Jezioro Zegrzyńskie (or Zalew Zegrzyński , German  Zegrze Reservoir ) was created in 1963 after the Narew was dammed at the Dębe dam . It is located in the Powiat Legionowski , about 25 km from downtown Warsaw and is therefore one of the city's most important recreational areas.

The lake is named after the village of Zegrze . The dam dams the Narew to around Pułtusk and the Bug flowing in from the east in its estuary. The lake has a length of around 41 kilometers; the traffic jam ends about 27 kilometers after Serock . It is up to 3.5 kilometers wide, its surface is around 3,000 hectares and its volume is 94 million cubic meters. It is 79 meters above sea level (water surface). There is a navigable connection to the Warsaw port of Żerań via the artificial Żerań Canal .

The 19th century Russian fortifications in Zegrze extend to the shores of the lake. A modern road bridge crosses the lake at Nieporét / Zegrze over a length of 332 meters and a width of 13.5 meters. It opened in 2003 and replaced a bridge from the post-war years of World War II that was demolished. Today the national road No. 61 runs over this bridge, here called Ulica Warszawska .

The lake is used as a navigable body of water, by energy and agriculture, for recreation and for flood protection. It also serves as a drinking water reservoir. For fish stocks include bream , tench , carp , perch , pike-perch , pike , catfish (the heaviest caught here catfish weighed 74.5 kilograms), rudd , asp , ruffe , burbot , eel , silver and Goldkarausche , Aland and chub .

The lake is a popular sailing area; Several times a year regattas in different classes are held here. In addition, you can beach sailing , kite and windsurfing , canoeing, motor boating and rowing. Ice sailing is also offered in winter .
