Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk

Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk (* 1979 in Altınordu ) is a Turkish economist and currently Turkey's Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Families.

Life

Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk was born in 1979 as the daughter of the Turkish AKP politician Atilla Koç , who was Minister for Tourism and Culture between 2005 and 2007.

After graduating from primary and secondary schools in Izmir , Siirt and Giresun , Selçuk graduated from Ataturk Anadolu Lisesi in Ankara and studied economics at Bilkent University with a bachelor's degree. She then began a doctorate in economics at the University of Michigan and later moved to Texas State University , where she completed her doctorate in business administration. There she also received a Masters Degree in Accounting and Information Resources Management . From 2003 to 2007 she was a research associate at the University of Texas.

In 2007 she worked for the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) in Ankara. At SESRIC she dealt in particular with gender issues, demographics, poverty, education and development aid. She also coordinated projects for sustainable development and programs to help people help themselves . Then she was head of the Statistics and Information Department of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation .

In April 2008 she married Ali Aydın Selçuk in Ankara.

On July 9, 2018, she appointed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan as Minister of Labor, Social Affairs and Families of Turkey. The new ministry was created through the amalgamation of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the Ministry of Families and Social Policy.

Selçuk is a member of the Kadın Birliği Platformu and was a board member of Kadın ve Demokrasi Derneği (KADEM).
