The magazine for e-learning was an educational specialist magazine that was published between 2006 and 2012 by Studienverlag , a publisher based in Innsbruck that specializes in cultural and social science literature .

The magazine's subtitle was “Learning Culture and Education Technology”. It was a joint project of the University of St. Gallen , the Danube University Krems , the University of Augsburg and the Center for Higher Education and Continuing Education (ZHW) at the University of Hamburg . The editors were Professors Andrea Back (St. Gallen), Peter Baumgartner (Krems), Gabi Reinmann (Augsburg) and Rolf Schulmeister (Hamburg).

The mostly 64-page magazine prepares topics from the broad field of e-learning in a scientifically sound and at the same time practice-oriented manner and is aimed equally at those interested in education and a specialist audience. Those interested in education are offered insights into the scientific and media didactic discourse , which is supported by many practice-oriented suggestions. Since media didactics is a more recent direction within the subject of education , the magazine has just presented the new approaches in the field of innovative forms of learning and offered interested parties a forum for future-oriented learning and teaching. The focus was always on a topic that spanned the issue, for example standards in e-learning (see also LOM , SCORM etc.), mobile e-learning, knowledge management , motivation and competence development in e-learning or e-learning in specific subject areas, for example in customer service and sales or sports science .

The first issue appeared in August 2006. It was published quarterly. Two years after the articles were published, the journal's articles were fully available online, the first time in 2008.

Discussions for a follow-up journal based on Open Access are currently underway under the project name iTeL (Interdisciplinary Journal for Technology and Learning).
