The Zellersee (also Zeller See ) is a standing water in the area of the Baden-Wuerttemberg community Kißlegg in the district of Ravensburg in Germany.

location

The approximately ten hectare (ha) Zellersee belongs naturally to the Westallgäu hill country . It lies at an altitude of 642  m above sea level. NHN west of the town center and east of the railway line to cheek in the districts Kißlegg and summer Ried .

description

The opposite end of the Würm formed 16,000 years ago Zellersee is closely linked to the history Kißleggs. As early as 824, a monastery cell built on the shores of what was then the lake (" cell by the lake ") was first mentioned in a document. "Radpodiszella" and "Kißleggzell" were the first place names of the settlement that developed from it.

Today the Zellersee is a sought-after fishing water and is used as a fishing water. Other uses that are problematic for nature conservation because of the local location are bathing in summer and ice skating in winter. Due to the poor water quality, the Zellersee was included in the "Action Program for the Rehabilitation of Upper Swabian Lakes" of the Tübingen Regional Council.

Hydrology

The Zellersee covers an area of 10.2 hectares and receives the inflow of a 27.5 km² catchment area, mainly via the Obersee and Schlingsee . Its drain runs over the Wolfegger Ach in the Schussen . The deepest point in the lake is 5.5 m below its level, on average it is 3.2 m deep and it has a volume of about 327,000 m³.

Nature reserve

The Zellersee is part of the 26 hectare nature reserve of the same name , which extends 1.25 kilometers from north to south and 0.47 kilometers from east to west.

The main protective purpose is the preservation, promotion and long-term improvement of the natural still waters of the Zellersee , its characteristic silting zones and the lower Kißlegger Ach with its litter meadows to the north . The protected area is a habitat and retreat area for a species-rich and endangered flora and fauna.
