Zeno Durrer

Zeno Durrer (born September 25, 1884 in Kerns , † May 19, 1967 in Basel ; Catholic , resident in Kerns) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Zeno Durrer was born on September 25, 1884 in Kerns as the son of the parquet manufacturer and Obwalden cantonal councilor Arnold Durrer. He received his professional training in Sarnen and Freiburg . As a result, he was a parquet manufacturer and became involved as an electricity pioneer. In 1904, Durrer had a first and in 1913 a second hydropower plant built on the Kleine Melchaa . A project he proposed in 1912 to enlarge the plant by damming water was rejected, but the idea was taken up again in Obwalden's electricity policy of the 1980s .

In 1934, in a time of crisis, Durrer resigned as director of the parqueterie company and moved to Basel. The parquet factory founded in 1899 was taken over by his son Arnold in 1937 and closed in 1981.

Zeno Durrer, who was married to Marie Margrith, daughter of the landlord and Cantonal Councilor Johann Zumstein, died on May 19, 1967 at the age of 83 in Basel.
