Zerography

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zerographie (also Zerografie written; of ancient Greek κηρός KEROS "wax" and -graphy , literally "font wax" or "wax case"), even Wachsgravierung called, is a method in wax to engrave .

The procedure consists of covering a polished copper plate with a layer of wax and drawing or transferring a photograph on it. The lines are then cut out down to the plate with a graver , writings are embossed with common types and the plate is then reproduced in an electroplating bath.

Zerography was mainly used in the USA for the production of maps and plans.
