Zessau is a district of the municipality of Trabitz in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district in Upper Palatinate in Bavaria .

Location and transport links

The place is about 2 km east-southeast of the core town of Trabitz on the district road NEW 5 and on the state road St 2665 , which joins the B 299 south of the place at Gänsmühle .

Church of the Sacred Heart

The church in Zessau is a branch church of the parish of Burkhardsreuth. It consists of a nave with an onion dome. Construction began in 1922. The church was consecrated in 1924 to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Former school house

From 1807 on, pupils were taught in Zessau. At first there was only one winter school that was housed in the shepherd's house. In 1854 it was possible to move into the school house built for this purpose. It was taught here until 1937. Then the move to the new school building took place. This consisted of the teacher's house and the part of the building with the classroom. The building is now privately owned.

Community house

The community house Zessau was built in the 2010s by the community of Trabitz, the Schützengesellschaft Eichenlaub Zessau eV and the volunteer fire department Zessau-Weihersberg as part of the village renewal. The vacated space of the old rifle shelter and the fire station was available for the redesign of the village square. In its place is now u. a. the playground.

Sperlkreuz

The Sperlkreuz is a concrete cross that stands at the northeastern exit of the village (towards Hessenreuth). It is named after Pastor Sperl, who donated the cross. From the nearby vantage point you can see as far as Kohlberg in good weather conditions.
