Ziaur Rahman (chess player)

Ziaur Rahman ( Bengali জিয়াউর রহমান ; * May 1, 1974 ) is a chess master from Bangladesh.

He won the Bangladeshi championship fourteen times: 1988, 1994, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2018. He played for Bangladesh in fifteen chess Olympiads : 1986 - 1988 , 1992 - 2008 , 2012 - 2018 . He also took part in the Asian team championships three times (1987, 1991 and 2009).

At the Chess World Cup 2007 he failed in the first round to Dmitri Jakowenko , also at the Chess World Cup 2011 to Maxime Vachier-Lagrave , Chess World Cup 2013 to Boris Gelfand and Chess World Cup 2015 to Evgeni Tomaschewski . At the Asian zone tournament in Kathmandu (2015) he was first.

In 1993 he became International Master , since 2002 he has held the title of Grand Master and since 2019 the title of FIDE Trainer. His highest rating to date was 2570 in October 2005.
