The ornamental ragwort ( Ophrys elegans ), which blooms from February to April, is closely related to the orchid Argolic ragwurz ( Ophrys argolica ).

features

This herbaceous perennial plant reaches heights of growth between 5 and 15 in rare cases even 25 cm high. The inflorescence includes two to four flowers . The sepals are strongly directed backwards. The lip is usually three-lobed, with the middle lobe usually appearing strongly convex . The dimensions of the flower organs agree almost completely with the Argolic Ragwurz.

Location and distribution

The location is also very similar to the Argolic Ragwurz. This plant species prefers garrigues , poor grasslands, light coniferous forests and macchia with limestone and marl soils up to a height of 1400  m . The distribution area is on Cyprus . Similar plants have also been found in southern Anatolia . Here the relationship has yet to be clearly clarified.
