The Zimapán Dam (Spanish "Presa Fernando Hiriart" or "Central Hidroeléctrica de Zimapán") is located on the Río Moctezuma in Mexico in the states of Hidalgo and Querétaro 30 km southwest of Zimapán . The dam was named after the engineer Fernando Hiriart Balderrama. The new dam was designed by Giovanni Lombardi .
The Rio San Juan and the Rio Tula also flow into the reservoir ; they unite in it to the Rio Moctezuma.
The hydropower plant has two Pelton turbines with an output of 146 MW each. With them, an annual amount of energy of 1,292.4 GWh can be generated. The first generator unit went into operation in September 1995. The operator is the electricity company Comisión Federal de Electricidad .
The barrier structure is an arch dam up to 207 m high in a narrow valley; other data speak of a height of 203 m.
