BR bike tour

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The BR-Radltour is an annual recreational cycling event of the Bavarian Radio since 1990 . Thomas Gaitanides was in charge of organizing the BR-Radltour . He was replaced by Matthias Keller-May after the BR-Radltour 2012 . In 2015, Markus Riese took on this role as head of event coordination at BR.

The BR-Radltour usually has six stages that lead through Bavaria . This cycling event is not a competition, but an event in which the fun of healthy exercise with the bike and the community atmosphere are in the foreground.

The BR bike tour claims to be the bike tour of its kind with the largest number of participants. However, this is only true if the number of registered participants of 1,000–1,300 for each stage is taken as the basis. Bicycle tours that do not require registration and also allow day participants sometimes have many times more passengers.

The BR bike tour is based on a similar concept as the Tour de Ländle , which often took place at the same time, sometimes with a delay in Baden-Württemberg .

Registration and participation

The tour will be advertised on the Bavarian Broadcasting website in May. Only those who have registered with Bayerischer Rundfunk by fax , in writing or, since 2014, via the Internet and who were able to win a place in the subsequent draw, are eligible to participate . Since the number of registrations always exceeds the number of possible passengers, the places are very popular despite a contribution to costs. Cyclists who try to ride on the tour without permission will be expelled from the tour. A day participation is usually only possible for the Sunday stage.

Around 1,000 to 1,300 participants take part in the tour every year. The possible number of participants depends on how many overnight accommodations are available in the tour cities.

meeting

The BR-bike tour starts on Saturday after the summer holidays in the country Bavaria . These usually begin in the last week of July or the first week of August. The tour ends the following Friday. The 2014 tour began abroad for the first time: in Kufstein in Tyrol.

The Tour

procedure

On the first day of the tour, usually a Friday or Saturday, only the journey to the starting point of the tour and the check-in take place. Transportation of participants, many of them with the track and back home, with their bicycles and luggage has in the past led to massive problems. In the meantime, special trains are offered for arrival and departure.

The actual tour start is usually on Saturday or Sunday morning. A stage is between 60 and 100 km long and is interrupted by one or two short water breaks and a longer lunch break. There are a total of six or seven stages, so the tour ends at the destination on the following Friday. The participants will be offered overnight accommodation on Friday, so that many participants will leave on Saturday with the special trains.

Starting on Saturday, after each day's stage, an evening event with music and live performances, including with well-known bands, will be held on a festival site in the respective tour city.

As an overnight option, participants are offered a place in a gym or school. A typical neighborhood can accommodate between 200 and 400 people. You sleep on mattresses on the floor. These mattresses are borrowed from the technical relief organization or the armed forces.

Service and supporters

Route sign BR-Radltour 2006

The stages and tour destinations are revised annually by the ADFC Bayern. An advance group of the ADFC also takes over the signposting of the route, while another group collects the signs again after passing the tour train. The Bavarian Surveying Administration publishes the tour information for each stage. This is a leaflet with information about the route, landscape and cities along the route and the destination city where the evening event is taking place. The tour leads about 400–550 km through the various regions of Bavaria.

The stage leads almost exclusively on public roads, where the corresponding section is completely closed to traffic while the tour train passes through. The cordoning off is carried out by the police , for which several police vehicles and around 20 motorcycles are in use. Several ASB ambulance vehicles drive with the entourage . The THW transports the luggage of the passengers and the mattresses for the night camp with several trucks. The participants can ride the stages with a light bike without luggage. Cyclists who are still unable to cope with the sporting demands of a stage or who have technical problems can entrust themselves to the broom wagon , which is also operated by THW, which will take them to the next break or to the stage destination. There is also a repair service for technical problems with the bike.

Various companies support the BR bike tour as sponsors . Longtime sponsor that his contribution mainly in kind contributes, the company is Adelholzener Alpenquellen .

The evening events are presented by the radio stations Bayern 1 , Bayern 3 and B5 aktuell as well as by the evening show on Bavarian television. In the week in which the tour takes place, numerous reports about it are broadcast on the relevant radio and television programs of Bavarian Radio.
