history

Kaltenberg is mentioned for the first time in a document from the Wessobrunn monastery from 1179.

The village and Jedelstetten formed the Hofmark Kaltenberg, which was owned by the Jesuit college Landsberg from 1612 to 1783 and by the Commende Kaltenberg from 1783 until the secularization . In 1752 21 properties in Kaltenberg are mentioned, all of which were landable in the Hofmark itself. The high jurisdiction lay with the Landsberg district court .

After secularization, in the course of the municipal edicts of 1818, the municipality of Kaltenberg was established, which was incorporated into Geltendorf on July 1, 1972.

lock

Kaltenberg is best known for the Kaltenberg Castle of the same name , the Kaltenberg Knight Tournament and the Kaltenberg Castle Brewery . A previous building of the castle from 1292 was destroyed again in 1296. It was only rebuilt around 1425 by the Augsburg patrician Peter Rehlinger , and in 1496 the Hundt family took over the castle. After several changes of ownership, the castle finally came into the possession of Johann Adolph Sommer in 1845, who, with the help of his brother-in-law, the painter Lorenz Quaglio , redesigned the castle in the neo-Gothic style. The striking southwest tower was also built at that time.

The castle has been owned by the Wittelsbach family since 1954 .
