Rehlinger (patrician)
The Rehlinger (also Relinger , von Rehlingen or Röhlinger ) were a patrician family of the imperial city of Augsburg . From an early stage, the Lords of Rehlingen belonged to the most influential families of the Bavarian nobility , based on their position in the ranks of witnesses . Branches of the family still exist today.
history
According to an old tradition, the Rehlingers originally come from Rehling or "Stainhauß" north of Augsburg, sources see it as a reference to Scherneck Castle (see Scherneck Castle ). Other sources name a castle in Rehlingen in Lechrain as the original ancestral seat of the family *.
As ministerials of the Wittelsbach family , they belonged to the most important noble families of the Bavarian dukes, whom they called "their dear, loyal servants" and who consulted them in all important negotiations. Berthold von Rehlingen was arbitrator several times , among others in 1305 in negotiations with the Hochstift Eichstätt because of the inheritance of the Counts of Hirschberg and in 1310 in the division between Dukes Ludwig , the later German Emperor, and Duke Rudolf . *.
Their castles at Rehlingen and Scherneck were their free property with the associated church sets , villages, bailiwicks , noble and ignoble crew. The Bavarian dukes also gave them the associated court marks and courts, especially the high court , as a fief .
In 1302 Ulrich von Rochelingen appears for the first time as a citizen of the city of Augsburg *. As early as 1300 Grimwald von Rehlingen promised the city of Augsburg that he would serve two years with his body, his people and his castle *. Later, according to Werlich's chronicle, by marrying his son Hans with the patrician families of the city, he permanently settled his line in Augsburg. It is documented that Ulrich and Conrad Roehlinger / Roechlinger were among the 20 richest Augsburgers in 1396. Until around 1550, the members of the widely ramified family were mainly active as entrepreneurs, merchants and bankers, while the following generations increasingly lived on the income from the possessions accumulated up until then, mainly in the greater Augsburg area. For a long time they owned the Hainhofen Castle there . In 1564 they established a permanent rule in Kleinkitzighofen ; their castle, which was connected to the church via a corridor, no longer exists since the end of the 18th century.
As early as 1322, another Hans von Rehlingen sold his castles and estates in Rehlingen, Griesstetten and Scherneck with all their affiliations to the knight Heinrich von Gumppenberg . A century later, the extinct country worn- Rehlinger that the briefly domination Au at Landshut had.
In the sign of the parish church of Leeder hang the anklets, which Raymund Rehlinger had attached to a memorial plaque after his return from Turkish captivity in 1595.
The Lords of Rehlingen belonged to the imperial knighthood in the Swabian knight circle during the 18th century . Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria awarded the brothers Richard and Rudolf von Rehlingen and Haltberg the hereditary baron status of the Kingdom of Bavaria on May 10, 1909 in Berchtesgaden “in recognition of the authentically proven Bavarian nobility, the fact that their family belonged to the former imperial knighthood and that which had been in use for a long time baronial title “ *.

The family coat of arms shows two silver tips in blue, each topped with a gold-inseminated five-petalled silver rose . On the crowned helmet are two blue buffalo horns , each topped with a rose-studded silver tip. The helmet covers are blue-silver.
