Urspringen is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart and a member of the Marktheidenfeld administrative community .

Surname
etymology
The name Urspringen is based on a plural form of the Middle High German word ursprinc . This refers to the sources of the Grummibach , which rises in the place and flows into the Karbach .

history
Until the church is planted
The name of the settlement is first attested in a document in 1159 as "Urspringen". The former office of the Grafschaft Castell , which was part of the Franconian Empire from 1500 , finally fell to the Grand Duchy of Würzburg in 1810 after the mediatization (1806) through border adjustments , with which it finally came to Bavaria in 1814 . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Mayor has been Volker Hemrich since May 1, 2014 (nominated by the Urspringer standard list); he was elected for a further six years on March 15, 2020 with 91.5% of the vote. The predecessor was Heinz Nätscher (Free Voters).
Municipal council
In the municipal council election on March 15, 2020 , only the nomination of the Urspring Unified List was submitted, which received 99.35% of the votes and whose applicants received the twelve mandates after a majority of votes. The local elections in 2002, 2008 and 2014 resulted in the following allocation of seats in the local council:

Wind Turbine Controversy
The way the community of Urspringen deals with wind power was the subject of an ARD television program from the series “Exklusiv im Ersten” which was broadcast on August 1, 2016. Claudia Butter and Achim Reinhardt showed recordings of the wind turbines in the region under the title “The battle for the wind turbines” and wanted to have shown in the broadcast that members of the local council had gained personal advantages from the construction of the wind farm.

Economy including agriculture and forestry
According to official statistics, there were 50 employees at the place of work in the manufacturing sector and 15 in the trade and transport sector. In other economic sectors 37 people were employed at the place of work subject to social security contributions. There were a total of 511 employees at the place of residence subject to social security contributions. There were five companies in the manufacturing sector and two in the construction sector. In addition, in 1999 there were 32 farms with an agricultural area of 1090 ha, of which 1060 ha were arable land and 28 ha were permanent green space.
