history

Catholic parish church St. Andreas in Wiesthal

Until the church is planted

Wiesthal is an old glassmaker's place and was first mentioned in a document in 1057. The little river Aubach used to separate the place into two parts, which belonged to the diocese of Mainz and the county of Rieneck . After the counts of Rieneck died out, this part of the town also fell to the Archbishopric of Mainz . The office of Archbishopric Mainz was secularized in 1803 in favor of the Prince-Primate von Dalberg and fell with his Principality of Aschaffenburg in 1814 (as a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt ) to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Administrative history

In 1862 the district office of Aschaffenburg was formed, on whose administrative area Wiesthal was located. On January 1, 1880, however, Wiesthal came to the Lohr am Main district office to reform the layout of the Bavarian district offices . As everywhere in the German Reich , the term district was introduced in 1939. Wiesthal was now one of the 26 communities in the Lohr am Main district . With the dissolution of the district of Lohr am Main, Wiesthal came to the newly formed district of Mittelmain on July 1, 1972, which ten months later received its final name, district of Main-Spessart .
