geography
Spring streams
The Karbach arises from the confluence of the Kettlichsgraben and Grundgraben in the east of Birkenfeld- Billingshausen.
Ground trench
The Grundgraben is the left and southern source brook of the Karbach with more water . The basic trench is 2.32 km long and has a catchment area of 12.52 km².
Some also regard it as the upper reaches of the Karbach.
The base ditch rises at a height of about 244 m above sea level. NN from an intermittent source in Wolfstal at the western foot of the Kohlplatte ( 295 m above sea level ) almost two kilometers northwest of the Birkenfeld district of Billingshausen about ten meters west of the boundary to Zellingen ( , ◒ ).
The stream initially flows in a south-westerly direction along the northern edge of the Billingshausen forest . Its banks border on the left side with deciduous forest and on the right with an agricultural zone. After almost half a kilometer it changes to the south-southwest and then takes its original direction a little further down the stream. It now runs through fields to the south past the hamlet of Lindenhof and immediately afterwards is fed on its right by the Birklichsgraben coming from the north . After a good seven hundred meters it reaches the outskirts of Billingshausen and a short time later joins the Kettlichsgraben , which is approaching from the north, to the Karbach.

Kettlichsgraben
The Kettlichsgraben is the longer, right and northern source brook of the Karbach . The Kettlichsgraben is 3.25 km long and has a catchment area of 6.40 km².
Some also regard it as a right tributary of the Karbach.
The Kettlichsgraben rises at a height of about 273 m above sea level. NN also from an intermittent source in the Untere Bödelein field on the southern eastern edge of the Zellingen district of Duttenbrunn a good forty meters north of Urspringer Strasse ( St 2437 ). ( , ◒ ).
The Kettlichsgraben initially flows in a southerly direction, then crosses under the state road St 2437 and then runs in a south-south-west direction through fields and meadows. Shortly before a small sewage treatment plant , it changes back to the south, then moves east of the Fuchsberg , the western spur of the Truhberg ( 306 m above sea level ) through the Elendsgraben and then passes the boundary from Zillingen to Birkenfeld. His further way to Billingshausen leads him westwards past the Lange Hölle forest corridor and then further between the Edelberg on the right and the Gansberg on the left. The stream now reaches the outskirts of Billingshausen, then crosses under the Sennfelder Weg and a short time later joins the Grundgraben coming from the northeast to the Karbach.
course
The combined stream now crosses under Zellinger Straße and runs in a south-westerly direction through a green zone on the south-east edge of the village. He then runs through the corridor Die Sauwiesen and turns sharply to the south-southeast at a small sewage treatment plant , only to resume his previous direction a good four hundred meters later. It now flows through fields and meadows of the Karbachgrund, accompanied by a tree gallery . The brook then turns to the west after a good three hundred and fifty meters and is immediately fed on its left by a brook coming from the deep ditch from the south. The Karbach now flows through Birkenfeld , where it is strengthened at the level of Brückenstraße on its right side by another small stream coming from the Bürgerlochsgraben in the north.
About four hundred meters after the Karbach has left the village, it takes the Grummibach from the north near the Weidenmühle and north of the Istelberg and then passes the municipal boundary at a sewage treatment plant in the direction of the market named after it . He is accompanied on his way to this market by the state road St 2299 . To the west of the sewage treatment plant in the Buschwiesen corridor are a number of small ponds. There, to the right of the Karbach, an eight hundred meter long mill ditch splits off, which used to run the Neumühle , also known as the Vogelsmühle . Shortly after the Mühlkanal has reunited with the brook, another brook flows towards it at the drought meadow on its right side from the wall ditch . The Karbach then crosses under the St 2299 north of the Griesberg ( 237 m above sea level ) and then runs along the southern edge of Markt Karbach, where it once drove the Fritze , König , Steinsbrunn and Breitmühle mills . At the Breitenmühle he takes the Klimbach on his right .
The Karbach now changes its direction to the northwest and runs between the Geisberg ( 225 m above sea level ) on the left and the Röderberg ( 266 m above sea level ) on the right, accompanied by rows of trees on the southwest edge of a deciduous forest through grassland. At the Fuchsenmühle , he is fed by a small stream from the Hölzesgraben on his right . The Karbach arches around the mill, which was operated by a mill ditch branched off on its left side. After the reunification with the ditch, a second mill canal branches off a little downstream on the other side, which on the southern edge of Marktheidenfeld - Zimmer supplied the rose , wood , new and fountain mills with water.
The Karbach is then strengthened on its right by the Fränkbach , then passes the Hessen - and the Schmittsmühle , crosses under the St 3436 and finally flows out at an altitude of about 142 m above sea level. NN in the hallway Lower Au from the left in the coming from the North Main ..
