history

In Marktheidenfeld, one of the first administrative communities in Bavaria was formed on January 1, 1976 through the voluntary merger of the six municipalities of Rothenfels, Karbach, Birkenfeld, Erlenbach, Esselbach and Hafenlohr. Most mergers of this type did not take place until May 1, 1978 ( regional reform in Bavaria ). Mayor Georg Engelhardt from Hafenlohr played a leading role in the preparatory talks. On July 1, 1976, Roden was added as the seventh community, and on May 1, 1978, the communities of Bischbrunn and Urspringen joined.
