The Expositurkirche St. Jakob in Wendelskirchen

Wendelskirchen is a district of the municipality of Loiching in the Lower Bavarian district of Dingolfing-Landau in the Weigendorf district .

geography

Wendelskirchen is located in the Isar-Inn hill country on the border with the Landshut district . The population of the district was last determined by official statistics on the occasion of the census on May 25, 1987. The results at that time were 166 inhabitants in 43 buildings with living space or 51 apartments.

Wendelskirchen has since grown together structurally with the neighboring village of Oberwolkersdorf , a few hundred meters to the northwest , so that no clear border can be seen on the satellite image. The community of Loiching therefore speaks of the dual place Wendelskirchen / Oberwolkersdorf. Logically, the municipality of Loiching shows current population figures from the register only for the double location: 424 inhabitants as of December 31, 2013. For comparison: In 1987 the two locations together had 346 inhabitants, 166 in Wendelskirchen and 180 in Oberwolkersdorf. On the historical map from 1863, the places are still clearly separated by 330 meters of open corridor .

At the Expositurkirche St. Jakobus the district road DGF 9 (Dingolfinger Straße) meets the state road St 2045 (Ahamer Straße). The DGF 8 (Pollinger there Road) meets in the neighboring Upper Wolkersdorf on the St 2045 (Kirchberger there road).

history

Wendelskirchen was first mentioned in a document in 1170, when a monk was named Werinhardus de Wendelchirchen in the chronicle of Aldersbach Monastery . Still Wendelgerschirchen in 1333, the place name Wendelskirchen appeared in a document from the Counts of Frontenhausen in 1418 . The name of the place, like the numerous other places in the area ending in churches , probably goes back to the own church of a nobleman.

At the time of the Duchy and Electorate of Bavaria, Wendelskirchen belonged to the Obmannschaft Pirken northwest of Aham ( Frontenhausen Office , Teisbach Regional Court ). The neighboring town of Oberwolkersdorf, on the other hand, which today has grown together structurally with Wendelskirchen, had a different lordly history and was part of the Jesendorf presidency in the Kirchberg district .

The branch church St. Jakobus was looked after from Loiching. With the Consistorialresolution of March 20, 1737, Wendelskirchen was raised to the position of the parish of Loiching. Since there was no tavern in Wendelskirchen, the Expositus poured beer from 1754 to 1816, since 1786 with the approval of the Shepherd. In addition to Wendelskirchen, the register of the diocese of Regensburg from 1838 lists 25 other localities (hamlets and wastelands) that belonged to the Wendelskirchen branch, some of which (Mayerhöf, Rehpaint, Schnellerhäusl, Thalham, Winterstetten) are no longer known today.

In 1816, after the introduction of compulsory schooling, the Wendelskirchen school exposition with a school in the parsonage was created. In the course of the formation of the community in 1818, Wendelskirchen became part of the community of Weigendorf. In 1872 a school building of its own was built, which also meant the separation of school and branch. In the Wendelskirchen area, what was probably the first cycle race in what was then the Dingolfing district took place. Horse races at the Straßer-Wirt in Wendelskirchen were also common.

In 1960 Wendelskirchen received a new school, from which the parish and youth home emerged. In the meantime, the newly built rectory stands at this point. In 1971, when Weigendorf and Loiching voluntarily merged as part of the Bavarian regional reform , the place became part of the new Loiching community.

On May 1, 2001, the St. Stephanus branch in Oberspechtrain was detached from the Loizenkirchen parish in the Vilsbiburg deanery and incorporated into the Wendelskirchen branch.

Attractions

  • Expositur Church St. Jakobus. The late baroque building was inaugurated on September 10, 1702 instead of a church that has been documented at least since 1558.

Under Georg Kollmannsberger's Expositus from 1820 onwards, the church underwent significant renovations. The dome tower was replaced by a pointed tower at the beginning of the 19th century. This continued under Explsitus Dr. Kumpfmüller around 1900 and also under Expositus Albert Menhart. In 1991 the church was completely renovated from the foundations to the steeple. In 1996/97 the interior of the church (with the redesign of the chancel) was fundamentally restored.

The church and a neighboring small block building with a gable roof from the 18th / 19th centuries. Century are listed .
