Weigendorf is a municipality in the Upper Palatinate district of Amberg-Sulzbach and a member of the Neukirchen bei Sulzbach-Rosenberg administrative community .

geography

Weigendorf, with its eleven districts, is the westernmost municipality in the Amberg-Sulzbach district and part of the historic Nordgau and lies supra-regionally in the low mountain range that emerged in the Tertiary. In the narrower sense, the community is located in the southern German layer level country and thus belongs to the Middle Franconian Alb . Their area is one of the dominant dolomite rocks ( Upper Jura , also called Malm) with the typical karstification of these limestone.

Geographical location

Weigendorf is located in the Upper Palatinate North region in the western part of the Amberg-Sulzbach district, 13 km west of Sulzbach-Rosenberg and 12 km east of Hersbruck on Bundesstraße 14 .

history

Even the Neanderthals stayed here, as evidenced by a wisdom tooth that was found in the ruins of the Hunas cave not far from Deinsdorf . Excavation remains from about 2000 years before the turn of the ages are z. B. found at Ernhüll and Lichtenegg with finds from the people of that time. The Celts had also colonized the area. The Houbirg and the castle in Lichtenegg were Celtic fortresses and refuges.

Weigendorf belonged to the Wittelsbach duchy of Neuburg-Sulzbach, which came to Bavaria in 1777 .

The Sankt-Margarethen-Kirche in the village of Ernhüll , located on the Alb plateau, goes back to Romanesque origins; it was given its current shape in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The district Högen (about 300 inhabitants), located in the valley of the Högenbach , was named Hegina in 1043 in connection with the donation of the towns of Fürnried , Wurmrausch and Högen by King Heinrich III. Mentioned for the first time to his servant Bardo, it changed hands several times as a country estate with royal justice . The most famous feudal lord of the palace, which was renovated from 2002 onwards according to historical preservation aspects, was the poet and scholar and liege lord Christian Knorr von Rosenroth . In addition to the castle, whose historical substance has been preserved, there are two well-preserved mills with still existing water flow and the associated water wheels (Finkenmühle oberschlächtig, Intermühle underslächtig) as well as natural monuments in the place weathered as limestone rocks as Wirts- und Baderrodlfelsen.

Between 1988 and 2018 the municipality grew from 1,122 to 1,233 by 111 inhabitants or 9.9%.

religion

In the community there is the Evangelical Lutheran branch church St. Margaretha, a former simultaneous church , and the Catholic branch church St. Leonhard. Weigendorf is one of the nine communities in the north-east of the Upper Palatinate in which the majority of the population is Protestant .

Municipal council

The municipal council has twelve members. Another member and chairman of the municipal council is the mayor. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, 749 of the 1,041 residents in the municipality of Weigendorf exercised their right to vote, resulting in a turnout of 71.95%.

Mayor is Reiner Pickel (CSU); he has been in office since May 1, 2014. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, he was re-elected with 58.26% of the vote.

The description of the municipal coat of arms, introduced in 1992, reads: "Divided by silver and blue, above a red St. Andrew's cross covered with a red heraldic rose with a silver lug and a red heraldic rose with a silver lug at the top, a growing silver mill wheel at the bottom."

In 2017 there were 115 jobs subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of the resident population, 515 people were in employment that was subject to compulsory insurance. This means that the number of out-commuters was exactly 400 more than that of in-commuters. 21 residents were unemployed. In 2016 there were 14 farms.
