Others

One kilometer north of Königstein is the oldest human dwelling in the Upper Palatinate, the so-called Kühloch ( cave cadastre Franconian Alb , cadastral number A 40). Cave bears lived there more than 12,000 years ago . Researchers also claim to have found remains of ice foxes and mammoths there. Stone drills made of blue-gray flint, blade scrapers made of chert and skeletal remains have come down to us from the Stone Age people who used the cave as a dwelling. Millennia later, the Kühloch still served as a shelter. This is where the farmers hid their cattle during the wars. The name Kühloch comes from this time. In addition, robbers and murderers used the cave as a refuge.
