Zimbl - A Real Cool Time is a documentary film about the musician Zimbl and the tribute “Rocking on heaven's door” organized in his honor.

content

The event runs as a red thread through the film. In addition, his family and friends, the band The Bates (in which Zimbl was singer and bassist), as well as old companions like Bela B. from Die Doctors speak in front of the camera about life with him. There are also unpublished video recordings of Zimbl during The Bates “ Pleasure + Pain ” tour in 1995, as well as recordings of Zimbl's solo performance in Witten (2003). Music by Sanoé as well as songs by Zimbl and The Bates underline the images.

Emergence

The filmmaker Sascha Nölke shot 15 hours at the event with a second cameraman and then had 9 hours on tape. Then there were the interviews and statements that made up another three hours of tape. Since not everyone involved wanted to give an interview directly on the evening of the Zimbl tribute, Nölke shot additional interviews in 2007, including with Zimbl's parents and Bela B., which was recorded at the Open Flair in Bela's tour bus.

It was shot exclusively on MiniDV . The film was cut on an AVID system. The post-production of the documentation lasted from February 2007 to January 2008. The cinema premiere took place on November 14, 2008 as part of the 25th Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival . The film was nominated for the “Golden Hercules”, a sponsorship award for outstanding North Hessian productions.
