Zimmer Biomet Holdings, Inc. ( NYSE : ZBH) is a US medical technology company and one of the world's largest suppliers of orthopedic implants . The company's headquarters are in Warsaw , Indiana . The company is listed in the S&P 500 . The headquarters for the EMEA region is located in Winterthur , Switzerland and emerged from Centerpulse , a spin-off from Sulzer Medica . The seat of the German branch is in Freiburg im Breisgau .
In British English , the term zimmer frame , or zimmer for short , has spread as a generic name for the walker rollator .
Products
Its main products include knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, spine and dental implants, as well as plates and screws for fracture treatment. Since 2006, Zimmer has been offering a knee implant that has been specially designed for the female anatomy.

Zimmer Holdings was founded in 1927 by Justin O. Zimmer (1884–1951) and had sales of $ 160,000 from the production of aluminum rails in the first year. In 1933 a department for associations was established. In 1942, the company's turnover breaks the million mark.
In 1950, Zimmer launched the first hip prosthesis developed by Palmer Eicher , in 1951 Zimmer achieved sales of 2 million US dollars for the first time, and in 1960 it was twice as much. In 1967 the company set up its own export department, and one year later Zimmer bought large areas of land to expand their production facilities. In 1979, Little Manufacturing Company in North Carolina , which specializes in soft goods, is acquired. At the turn of the next decade, Zimmer had 522 employees and sales of US $ 27.2 million. The company was acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1972 and they introduce the first polyethylene prostheses at the AAOS annual meeting . In 2003 Zimmer acquired the Swiss company Centerpulse AG, the former medical technology division of the Sulzer group. Centerpulse was the most important manufacturer of orthopedic implants in Europe. On April 24, 2014, Zimmer Holdings announced that it would take over medical technology company Biomet Inc. for $ 13.4 billion. In June 2015, the acquisition of Biomet was completed and the company name was changed to Zimmer Biomet Holdings .
Product liability suits
In November 2018, an international research association named the artificial hip joint Durom-Metasul-LDH, which had been withdrawn from the market, as an example of defective medical implants; around 100 victims are waiting for a decision by the Freiburg Regional Court .
