Tin (IV) sulfate is an inorganic chemical compound of tin from the group of sulfates , which is present as a dihydrate .
Extraction and presentation
Tin (IV) sulfate can be obtained by reacting α- stannic acid with sulfuric acid. When the solution is evaporated, white dihydrate crystals separate out, which have a needle-shaped, tabular or prismatic appearance with increasing acid concentration.
You can also do this by dissolving tin (IV) oxide with sulfuric acid
or by reacting tin (II) sulfate with sulfuric acid at 130 to 200 ° C.
The direct reaction of tin with hot, concentrated sulfuric acid also produces tin (IV) sulfate.
properties
As a dihydrate, tin (IV) sulphate is a colorless, very hygroscopic , crystalline substance that decomposes hydrolytically on contact with water with the separation of α-stannic acid. The compound has a hexagonal crystal structure .
use
Tin (IV) sulfate is used as a solution in sulfuric acid to determine nitrates .
