Itaporanga Cistercian Abbey
The Cistercian Itaporanga Abbey (Latin Abbatia BMV ad S. Crucem de Itaporanga ) has been a Brazilian monastery in Itaporanga, São Paulo , Diocese of Itapeva , Church Province of Sorocaba , since 1936 .
history
In view of the growing threat from National Socialism , the Himmerod monastery founded the Abadia de Nossa Senhora da Santa Cruz ("Holy Cross") monastery in Itaporanga in 1936 at the invitation of Bishop José Carlos de Aguirre (1880–1973) a good four hours' drive west of São Paulo 1950 was elevated to the abbey . In 1953 the church was built according to plans by Albert Boßlet .
