The Cistercian abbey Fontaine-Guérard was from 1135 to 1189 a priory of Benedictine , then to 1790 a monastery of Cistercian nuns in Radepont in the Eure in France .

history

The Benedictine convent, which has existed southeast of Rouen on the River Andelle since 1135, was placed on broader economic ground in 1189 by a Robert von Leicester foundation and joined the Cistercian order in 1207 . After completion of the Gothic buildings, the priory was elevated to an abbey in 1253 and dissolved by the French Revolution in 1790 . The beauty of the ruins that still remain today (especially the church and chapter house , a listed building since 1937) is widely praised. The place is looked after by the association “Esprit de Fontaine-Guérard” and is a member of the European Charter of Cistercian Abbeys and Places .
