Cistercian Convent Paradise (Mauchenheim)
The Cistercian convent Paradies (Mauchenheim) was a convent of the Cistercian women in Mauchenheim near Alzey in Rhineland-Palatinate from the 12th century to 1559 .
history
The monastery (according to Germania Sacra ) first mentioned in 1262 housed Cistercian women between 1356 and 1418. Other sources speak of a foundation in the 12th century (around 1175), others testify to a union with the nearby Sion (Mauchenheim) monastery in 1350. From 1418 the convent belonged to the Disibodenberg monastery . In 1525 the monastery was destroyed during the Palatinate Peasants' War and dissolved in 1559.
