Cistercian convent of Saint-Aubin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cistercian convent of Saint-Aubin was a convent of the Cistercian women from 1200 to 1791 in Gournay-en-Bray , Seine-Maritime department in France .

history

Hugo V von Gournay, who had returned from the Third Crusade , founded the Cistercian priory of Saint Aubin (after Albin von Angers ) near Gournay-en-Bray on the Epte River in 1200 , which was temporarily regarded as an abbey due to its high number of nuns . Archbishop Eudes Rigaud of Rouen discussed the monastery in his visitation reports. Several prioresses came from the Harlay de Champvallon family in the 17th century. Prioress Marie-Anne de Harlay became abbess of the Port Royal des Champs abbey in Paris (1695–1702). During the French Revolution in 1791 the monastery was closed and the buildings were dismantled. The Ferme du Couvent farm has been preserved . The street name Côte de Saint-Aubin is also reminiscent of the former monastery. There is no connection with the commune of Saint-Aubin-en-Bray .
