Ziya Pir

Ziya Pir (* 1970 in Torul , Gümüşhane Province ) is a politician and member of the HDP (Democratic Party of the Peoples) in the Turkish Parliament . He came to Germany in 1979 at the age of 9, graduated from high school, completed vocational training in Biberach and studied in Bochum . In 2015 he ran for the HDP and was elected to the Turkish parliament on June 7, 2015 and in the new elections on November 1, 2015 for the Diyarbakır province . He is u. a. Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO . On the night of November 4, 2016, he was arrested along with 12 other HDP MPs and was briefly in police custody.

Ziya Pir is a nephew of Kemal Pir , one of the founders of the underground organization Workers' Party of Kurdistan (PKK).
