Zoe Tembo

Zoe Mumbi Tembo (born as Zoe Mumbi ; died March 11, 2001 ) was a Zambian human rights activist .

Life

She was the coordinator for Catholic students in Africa at the Pax Romana organization . In 1992 she took part in a course at the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) in Geneva , where she completed an internship.

Immediately thereafter, she began working at the African Center for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) in Banjul , Gambia . She was initially deputy director before becoming the first non-Gambier woman and first woman director in 1994 as the successor to Raymond Sock . During her work there she continued to cooperate with the ISHR and worked there as a consultant.

In March 2001 she died unexpectedly after a short illness. President Yahya Jammeh donated 50,000 dalasi for the funeral. Hannah Forster followed her as director.

The new building of the organization Zoe Tembo Building was named in her honor .

She was married to Joseph Tembo, with whom she had several children.
