Customs house and milestones

The Zollhaus is a listed building in Ballenstedt in the Harz district .

Similar to Anhalt-Köthen ( Porst , Großpaschleben), so-called customs houses were built in Anhalt-Bernburg . The function after it was with them at Chaussee houses , since the money was collected for the use of the road. Similar to Porst, an unusual architecture has been found here so that you can see the corner well.

The classicist building, erected in the second quarter of the 19th century, has a tower on the corner of Alte Kreipe and Quedlinburger Straße, so that this and the neighboring streets could be overlooked. Next to it is the actual building on the Alte Kreipe. Today's federal highway 185 , the most important east-west connection of Anhalt , which led from Dessau via Köthen, Bernburg and Aschersleben to Harz, turns in the immediate vicinity . In the vicinity of the listed building, which is mostly just called the yellow house , two Anhalt milestones were set up in 1992 . They were originally north-east of Ballenstedt ( 10-mile stone ) or west ( 11-mile stone ). City gates with gatehouses serve as a model for the unusual architecture.
