Zoltán Bátorfi

Zoltán Bátorfi (born July 20, 1975 in Szombathely ) is a Hungarian table tennis player . In the 1990s he took part in five world championships , at least two European championships and the 1996 Olympic Games .

Career

Zoltán Bátorfi is the son of the pediatrician István Bátorfi, who played table tennis in the Hungarian 2nd division in the 1980s. Together with his sister Csilla Bátorfi , he was trained by his father. After a few years in Tolna (1975–1984) the family moved to Budapest.

Zoltán Bátorfi achieved his first international successes at the European Youth Championships. Here he was second in doubles in 1989 with Zoltán Varga and 1990 with Adam Lindner, and in 1989 he also helped the team win the title. In 1992 he reached the semi-finals in singles.

At the national Hungarian championships he won three mixed titles, namely in 1993 with Csilla Bátorfi , in 1994 and 2002 with Krisztina Tóth . He was Hungarian team champion six times, in 1988/89 with Budapesti Vasutas SC, then five times with Postás SE Budapest (1989/90, 1989/90, 1997/98, 2000/01, 2001/02).

From 1989 to 1999 he took part in five world championships , but did not come close to medal ranks. In 1996 he qualified for participation in the individual competition of the Olympic Games . Here he defeated Hamad Al-Hammadi from Qatar in the group games , but lost to Zoran Primorac (Croatia) and Werner Schlager (Austria).

In 1993 Zoltán Bátorfi joined the German regional league club Spvg. Niedermark and helped it to move up to the 2nd Bundesliga.
