Zombie King , also Zombie King and the Legion of Doom (Original: Zombie Beach Party , or ! Enter ... Zombie King ) is a Canadian low-budget - independent film by director Stacey Case . The direct-to-video production was released in Canada on July 7, 2003, and the German DVD release date was December 19, 2006.

The comic-like film is about a masked troop of Mexican wrestlers , the luchadores , who take on a villain and a gang of undead and ultimately defeat them in a final good versus evil. Zombies are just a marginal phenomenon here, following their base instincts to pursue their greed for meat. All the main characters in this film, apart from one villain, only act with Mexican wrestling masks, which they do not take off during the entire length of the run. Furthermore, the protagonists are only addressed by their stage name such as " Ulysses ".

action

The action takes place in a surreal parallel world, which sinks under a blanket of snow despite temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius and in which wrestlers are national heroes and famous megastars. In this scenario, zombies are commonplace, but they are not tolerated in residential areas and are therefore driven away. Unnoticed by society, an undead ex-wrestler known as the “Zombie King” and his sinister helpers are planning to dump zombie blood into the city's drinking water network in order to contaminate large sections of the population. The patient would like to use the resulting unrest for his daring plan to usurp world domination. To this end, his subordinate “French Vixen” experiments with hybrids of humans and zombies. The villain also has hosts of the undead to help him with his endeavor. However, these creatures cause bloody massacres among local residents at irregular intervals.

The well-known and philosophizing wrestling champion "Ulysses", who wears a mask based on the US flag, visits the befriended siblings "Mercedes" and "Blue Saint" in their hometown, a small town right by the sea. During his journey he learns about a new wrestling show by his rebellious childhood friend and competitor “Tiki”, who pretends to be an attraction in a steel arena against real zombies in the ring. In reality, he has secretly succeeded in taming bloodthirsty zombies for the first time and training them to become capable show fighters. Ulysses wants to prevent Tiki's show performance with his siblings, who are friends, because he considers the situation dangerous and fears that the audience will be attacked. On the evening of the event, vicious undead roaming free roam the area and kill an innocent lesbian woman. Ulysses initially feels confirmed. The suspicion immediately falls on Tiki's domesticated zombies, but the accused denies any involvement in the crime, again asserts his innocence and hastily leaves. Ulysses senses a conspiracy and asks his mysterious friend “Mister X” for help, who also arrives within a very short time.

Tiki is considered to be responsible in this strange murder case, but more detailed investigations in cooperation with the main suspect lead to the realization that it is not Tiki's half-tame zombies, but dark individuals of the mysterious Antonino aka Zombie King. Ulysses' archenemy uses these murderous beasts to achieve his desired world domination. Finally, under Ulysses leadership, a multi-person wrestling troop invades Zombie King's headquarters. Several sometimes brutal fighting begins. At the end of the film, the intruders manage to eliminate a few living dead as well as the Zombie King. The remaining, abandoned zombies are tamed by Tiki in an urgent procedure so that they become an integral part of a new form of society.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "collection of absurdities" that were self-deprecating, but were no more "than a half-baked 'trash' mixture" .
