Zoophobia (from ancient Greek ζῷον zōon , German 'living being' , and φόβος phobos , German 'fear' ) describes the pathological fear of animals . It is one of the specific anxiety disorders . Zoophobia does not refer to a normal fear of dangerous and wild animals that can threaten the lives of those affected. Those affected therefore usually avoid animals or places where they could meet animals. These are, for example, zoos , parks and places in nature . According to Sigmund Freud , zoophobia is the most common fear in childhood.
