Zsombor Piros (born October 13, 1999 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian tennis player .

Career

Zsombor Piros has been on the ITF Junior Tour since 2014. In 2017 he caused a stir there for the first time. At the Australian Open , he won the title with just one set loss. In the final he lost to Yshai Oliel 6: 4, 4: 6, 3: 6. Previously, Piros did not achieve a single victory at the junior grand slam level. After Márton Fucsovics , he was the second male winner of a Junior Grand Slam from Hungary. A few months later he won the double title of the French Open alongside Nicola Kuhn . He reached his highest position in the junior world rankings in September of the same year with rank 3.

On the professional tour, he only appeared on the third-class ITF Future Tour until 2017 . He made his first appearance on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in 2017 in his hometown Budapest , where he was defeated by Edward Corrie . In the second half of the year, he made the first two finals in futures, so that he was able to finish the year in 626th place.

At the beginning of 2018 he fought his way through the qualification at the Challenger in Nouméa and surprised the top 100 player and seeding list leader Julien Benneteau in the main round before losing to Noah Rubin in the round of 16 . In February he was appointed to the Hungarian Davis Cup team for the first time , where he won the insignificant last individual against Julien Cagnina . Later in the year he reached other challengers through qualification and also won his first future title. He celebrated his premiere on the ATP World Tour again in his home country thanks to a wildcard in April at the Gazprom Hungarian Open . He could not master the opening hurdle against Michail Juschny and lost 3: 6, 3: 6. His previous highest position in the world rankings is 378th place, which he took at the beginning of August.
