Nicola Kuhn (born March 20, 2000 in Innsbruck ) is a German - Spanish tennis player who competed for Germany until 2015.

Career

Nicola Kuhn was born in Austria to a Russian and a German child. His parents were also successful athletes: his father was a world champion in Taekwondo , his mother a figure skater . He grew up mostly in Ludwigshafen , but from an early age spent a lot of time near Alicante in Spain, where his parents own a holiday home. He grew up speaking four languages (German, English, Russian and Spanish) and from the age of 12 he lived in the Equelite Academy of ex-world number one Juan Carlos Ferrero . While Kuhn won some youth titles in Spain, the DTB also tried to win him, so that the German-Spaniard under the German flag was able to win the titles at the U14 European and World Championships. He also reached the final of the U16 Junior Davis Cup. Kuhn is now training again with his old German trainer.

Finally, Nicola Kuhn decided to run for Spain from 2016.

Junior Tour

Kuhn has been participating in ITF Junior Tour tournaments since 2014. His combined top position in the world rankings is a fifth place he was able to achieve in early 2017. One of his greatest successes on the tour is a semi-final participation at the French Open 2016 in singles, where he was defeated by Félix Auger-Aliassime, and a 2017 final against Alexei Popyrin . At the same tournament in 2017 he also won the doubles competition with Zsombor Piros .

Professional tour

On the Profi Tour, Kuhn played for the first time in 2015 on the third-class ITF Future Tour . He was able to record his first successes in 2017, when he had already declared his junior career over. In Hungary he won his first future title. After winning his first match on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Meerbusch in 2016 , he reached the final of the Challenger Tournament in Braunschweig in July 2017 as number 501 - his highest position to date - in the world rankings from qualification . There he faced the Croatian Viktor Galović , who had previously won nine matches in a row. From Kuhn's point of view, he had to give up when the score was 4: 2 in the third set, so that Kuhn won his first challenger title. This brought him a total of 131 world ranking points, which made him jump to 242th place on the table.
