The Holy Spirit is a Catholic church in Cologne district ruler .

history

After the folding rule had grown rapidly in the 1920s, a separate community grew in the southern part of the district, independent of the parish of St. Pius . The rectorate parish of the Holy Spirit was separated from St. Pius on December 8, 1931. At the beginning of 1931 the contract to build the church according to the plans of the Cologne architects Pasman and Bonnan was awarded to the company Fuchs & Becker based in Zollstock. Construction began in April, and on June 7, 1931, the Cologne city dean Löbbel laid the foundation stone, which was embedded in the north wall of the choir . The consecration of the church by the auxiliary bishop Wilhelm Stockums took place on May 16, 1932. The relics of the martyrs Auxilius and Eutropius were let into the altar .

During the Second World War , the church was badly damaged in the bombing . The reconstruction under the leadership of the civil engineer Jakob Langenhövel was completed at the end of 1950 and was celebrated with a solemn pontifical office with Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Ferche . Another expansion according to the plans of Karl Band was celebrated in 1957 with a renewed pontifical office with Auxiliary Bishop Ferche.
