St. Pius (Cologne)
The St. Pius Church is a Catholic church in Cologne district ruler .

After the construction of an emergency church in a shed on the corner of Zollstocksweg and Höninger Weg, the church was built between 1913 and 1915 according to plans by Eduard Endler . It is made up of elements from the late Gothic period and borrowings from the forms of the Renaissance and Baroque . On May 10, 1915, the church was consecrated by Felix Cardinal von Hartmann . After the destruction of the Second World War , it was rebuilt according to plans by the Cologne architect Karl Band .
Its church tower , which was rebuilt until 1956 , is one of the tallest in Cologne today.
Furnishing
The front wall of the choir with the depiction of The Gate into the Future , like the colorful windows of the nave, was designed by Wilhelm Buschulte . The choir window was created by Hans Lünenborg . Will Thonett designed the windows of the crypt .
The wooden cross in the choir was created by the Düsseldorf sculptor Herbert Belau , a student of Professor Ewald Mataré . The altar, the stele of the tabernacle and the Easter candlestick are works by Karl Matthäus Winter . The organ comes from the organ building company Seifert & Sohn . With seven bells, the church also has one of the largest bells in Cologne.
