- March 20 - start of the Iraq war .
- May 1st - The two ARD stations Sender Free Berlin (SFB) and Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) merge to form Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB). The new transmitter will keep the two main locations in Berlin and Potsdam.
- July - The reporting of the BBC over weapons of mass destruction in Iraq comes through the affair of the British biological weapons expert David Kelly , adviser to the British government and a major source of the BBC's research, under pressure. According to the BBC, the cabinet under Prime Minister Tony Blair deliberately misled the British public about Iraq 's biological weapons arsenal in the run-up to the Iraq war . Kelly commits suicide shortly after being questioned by a British Parliament investigative committee .
- August - The Israeli-American media entrepreneur Haim Saban takes over ProSiebenSat.1 Media .
- August 4th - In the greater Berlin area , the previous analogue terrestrial television reception is converted to DVB-T as the first region in Germany .
Radio
- The Phonostar Internet portal is launched. It offers access to over 4,000 internet radios from all over the world.
- In UVK the first edition of appears Hans-Jürgen Krug Small history of radio drama . It is the first attempt in over 20 years to tell the story of German-language radio art.
- January 1st - NDR broadcasts its own cultural program with NDR Kultur after leaving Radio 3.
- February 20 - The German author and filmmaker Christoph Schlingensief is awarded the War Blind Radio Play Prize for his radio play Rosebud .
- April 4 - The private medium-wave broadcaster Megaradio ceases operations due to bankruptcy.
- July 1st - The Hamburg Open Channel ceases broadcasting and is replaced by the non-commercial citizen and training channel Tide .
- September - The hr closes the evening studio founded by Alfred Andersch in 1948 .
- November 22nd - The Austrian radio station Ö1 broadcasts the 1000th edition of the Diagonal - Radio for Contemporaries series .

- November 23 - On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the first broadcast of Doctor Who , the BBC announces a new edition of the series for 2005.
- December 23rd - Sat.1 broadcasts the last episode of the Harald Schmidt Show .

- February 10 - José Lewgoy , Brazilian actor (numerous television roles and telenovelas) dies at the age of 82 in Rio de Janeiro . Lewgoy was the German cinema audience in Werner Herzog film Fitzcarraldo as a rubber baron Don Aquilino known.
- February 23 - Marcel Prawy , Austrian opera connoisseur and long-time opera and music theater presenter on ORF, dies at the age of 91 in Vienna .
- February 26th - Willy Kralik , Austrian television presenter ( senior club ) dies in Vienna at the age of 73.
- March 22nd - Gordian Troeller , Luxembourgian television writer for Radio Bremen (including documentary series In the Name of Progress or Women of the World ) dies at the age of 86 in Hamburg .
- 22 March - Terry Lloyd - British television journalist and war correspondent dies at the age of 50 in Basra , Iraq .
- April 2 - Wolfgang Korruhn , German television journalist and presenter ( WDR -Politmagazin ZAK ) dies at the age of 65 in Cologne .
- May 23 - Horst Friedrich Mayer , Austrian news presenter ( time in the picture ), dies in Vienna at the age of 66 .
- May 24th - Hans-Werner Kock , German television journalist, dies in Berlin at the age of 73 .
- July 27 - Bob Hope , American entertainer dies in California at the age of 100.
- September 11 - John Ritter , American actor and serial actor ( Jack of Hearts with two women ) dies at the age of 54 in Burbank (Los Angeles County) .
- September 14th - Walter Davy , Austrian actor and television director dies at the age of 78 in Vienna. Davy became known to the general public primarily in the role of Schremser in the crime parody Kottan .
- October 14th - Heinz Quermann , German TV entertainer ( Between Breakfast and Roast Goose , 1957–1991) dies at the age of 82 in Berlin .
- September 21 - Robert H. Lochner , American journalist and diplomat, dies one month before his 85th birthday in Berlin. Lochner was the last American director of the RIAS Berlin between 1961 and 1968 .
- November 4th - Walter Niesner , Austrian radio presenter ( driver on the road ), dies at the age of 84.
- November 12 - Jonathan Brandis , American actor, dies in Los Angeles at the age of 27 .
- December 29 - American actor Earl Hindman dies at the age of 61 in Stamford , Connecticut. Hindman was best known to a wide audience through the portrayal of the character Wilson Wilson Jr. in the television series Listen, Who's That Hammering .
