- February - Norddeutsche Rundfunk , Westdeutsche Rundfunk and the supraregional Süddeutsche Zeitung found the research network NDR, WDR and Süddeutsche Zeitung for investigative journalism .

- April 8 - After the end of the Cold War , international broadcasting had increasingly switched from shortwave as a means of transmission to satellite and rebroadcasting in the target country. The crisis in Ukraine caused a setback to the extent that the broadcasting of Voice of America over the frequencies of Voice of Russia was ended on April 8, 2014. The Radio Liberty program will continue to be broadcast on Radio Swoboda in Russia.
- April 30 - The employment contracts of the Moscow employees of the Voice of Russia were terminated on April 30, 2014.
