- January 25th - In Hamburg , the Golden Camera television prize is awarded for the first time . Among the award-winning television professionals are Inge Meysel , Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff and Georg Stefan Troller .
- March 4th - John Lennon's claim in an interview with the London daily Evening Standard that the Beatles were "more popular than Jesus" led to protests against the mushroom heads, including calls for boycotts and public record burnings , especially in the USA .

- September 8th - On NBC , the first little noticed edition of the later extremely successful science fiction series Raumschiff Enterprise can be seen. The 79-part production, based on the idea of Gene Roddenberry , has to get by on a low budget and is therefore often dependent on sets already used in other films. It was not until the re-broadcast in the 1970s that it became cult .

- December 26 - Kim Peacock , British actor, radio play speaker and screenwriter, dies at the age of 65 in Emsworth , Hampshire ( England ). Among other things, he spoke the title role in 10 radio plays about the detective Paul Temple at the BBC .
