- The Wirtschaftsrundspruchdienst starts as the first regular radio broadcaster in Germany.

- February - The Detroit Symphony Orchestra plays the first live symphony concert, broadcast from Detroit's WWJ station .
- February 8 - US President Warren G. Harding installs the first radio in the White House .
- February 19 - Comedian Ed Wynn makes his first radio appearance with his program The Perfect Fool .
- March 22nd - The newspaper Variety makes the headline: "Radio Sweeping Country - 1,000,000 Sets in Use" (German: "Radio conquers nation - 1,000,000 devices in use").
- March 23 - Hillbilly musician Fiddlin 'John Carson makes his first appearance on WSB radio station in Atlanta .
- May 11th - In the UK, 2LO broadcasts the first sports commentary. The future BBC employee Arthur Burrows comments on the boxing match between Ted Kid Lewis and Georges Carpentier at Olympia , London. Due to protests by newspaper publishers, this form of reporting could not establish itself in England until 1927.
- May 11th - In Honolulu ( Hawaii ) the station KGU goes “on air”.
- May 16 - In Germany, the Telefunken and Lorenz companies apply to the Reichspost to obtain the license to set up and operate transmission and reception systems.
- May 22nd - The Eildienst , a business news bureau closely related to the German Foreign Ministry, founds the German hour as a subsidiary in Berlin . Society for wireless teaching and entertainment mbH .
- June 14 - Warren G. Harding becomes the first US President to be heard live on the radio.
- July 21 - Marie Zimmerman becomes the first woman to be licensed to operate a private radio station. She is the owner of the station Wiä in Vinton ( Iowa ).
- August 28th - The radio station WEAF from New York broadcasts the world's first commercial .
- September 12th - The German Hour in Bavaria is called the German Hour in Bavaria in Munich . Society for wireless teaching and entertainment mbH founded by Munich business people and the director of the German hour in Berlin , Ernst Ludwig Voss .
- October 18 - The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) - later the British Broadcasting Corporation - is founded in London as an independent radio station.

- February 12th - Gustl Bayrhammer , Bavarian folk actor (as Meister Eder in Meister Eder und seine Pumuckl , 1982–1989) is born in Munich . († 1993)
- February 24th - Hans Bierbrauer , German draftsman, caricaturist and painter was born in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen († 2006). Bierbrauer became known as the quick draftsman Oskar in the TV series Dalli Dalli (1971–1986).
- March 20 - Carl Reiner , American television producer, actor, and director is born in the Bronx , New York .
- April 10th - Wolfgang Quantity , German journalist, screenwriter ( One Heart and One Soul ) and TV presenter is born in Berlin .
- May 13 - Beatrice Arthur , American actress and singer, was born Bernice Frankel in New York († 2009). Arthur became known to a worldwide television audience as Dorothy Zbornak in the 1985-1992 sitcom Golden Girls .
- May 18 - Werner Riepel , German actor, singer and radio play speaker was born in Hamburg († 2012). He is best known for the numerous television broadcasts from the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater .
- June 2 - Ruth Bunkenburg , German actress, writer, radio play author and speaker at Radio Bremen was born in Sulingen († 2015).
- June 17th - Dieter Wedekind , German cameraman, is born in Berlin .
- June 29th - Wolfram Schaerf , German actor and voice actor, was born in Berlin († 1992).
- August 18 - Fritz Umgelter , German director ( as far as your feet can carry and on the green beach of the Spree ) is born in Stuttgart . († 1981)
- August 25th - Hellmut Andics , Austrian journalist and screenwriter was born in Vienna († 1998).
- October 23 - Gerhard Bronner Austrian author, cabaret artist and radio presenter ( hit song for advanced , Der Guglhupf ) was born in Vienna († 2007).
- December 14th - Donald Hewitt , American television journalist ( 60 Minutes ) was born in New York City († 2009).
- December 20 - Charita Bauer , American series actress ( Springfield Story ) was born in Newark (New Jersey) († 1985).
- October 31 - Barbara Bel Geddes , American actress, was born in New York († 2005). She became known to international television audiences in the 1980s as "Miss Ellie" Ewing in the television series Dallas .
- December 8th - Gerhard Löwenthal , German journalist ( ZDF-Magazin , 1969–1988) was born in Berlin († 2002).
